If you wish, you may donate in honor or in memory of someone and your donation can be acknowledged to the individual, family or friend(s) of your choice.

Other Ways You Can Support Samaritans

Designate as Charity of Choice or In Lieu of Gifts

At those times birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, significant events such as a memorial when it is customary for people to give gifts or donations in your or your family s name, make Samaritans your designated charity. Our staff will work with you to present the message in a thoughtful manner and Samaritans sends handwritten thank you notes to every person that donates to our organization.

Arrange a Matching Gift

Many employers will "match" your charitable donation, which could double or even triple the value of your contribution. If your or your spouse's company has a matching-gift program, please let us know when you make your donation. You can request a matching gift form from the human resources or corporate giving department and send it to us and we will complete the process for you.

Generate Additional Support with E-mail/Facebook Links

Suggest that friends, family members, colleagues and others you know support the work of Samaritans by forwarding our information utilizing our easy-to-use On-Line Email Tool at <a href="http://www.samaritansnyc.org/support/ecampaign" TARGET=_blank www.samaritansnyc.org/support/ecampaign > www.samaritansnyc.org/support/ecampaign that provides pre-written emails that you can personalize and send in one step or by posting our donor information and/or site links on your Facebook or Twitter page.

Private/Family Foundations

Are you directly connected to a family or private foundation that would be interested in supporting the work of Samaritans? With a very low overhead, our focus on NYC s most vulnerable, fragile and underserved residents and the majority of our services provided for free by caring volunteers from the community, Samaritans often fits the profile that family foundations seek when determining where to invest their philanthropic efforts.

Corporate Giving

Are you personally connected to, work with or have a direct contact at a business or corporation that would consider making Samaritans part of its corporate giving agenda (tied to public health, volunteerism, community services, etc.)?
For businesses that believe in supporting social causes and addressing those problems that are often ignored or overlooked and would like their efforts to be seen and acknowledged by the public, Samaritans provides great visibility.

Samaritans hotline and volunteer recruitment advertisements, brochures and PSA s reach hundreds of thousands of people annually though broadcast, radio, print and Internet media. Our program materials as well as those distributed and accessed through our websites, conferences and advocacy work reach tens of thousands of frontline educators, health providers, government agency directors, political decision-makers and students, parents, teachers every year.

Samaritans frequently distributes its printed materials at health fairs, major conferences, public health meetings and as a member of national, statewide and NYC coalitions.

Program/Project Sponsorship

You, your family and/or business can sponsor or co-sponsor one of Samaritans key community crisis response initiatives, including the suicide hotline, public education program, suicide survivor support group and major health conferences. There are also specialized projects that address a specific need or service gap, for example, providing support to a neighborhood group that works with local returning veterans or victims of violence or people with AIDS.

Examples: $5,000 sponsorship would create a crisis resource tool that NYC guidance counselors can use in 1,200 public schools; $10,000 provides 20 training programs to neighborhood groups dealing with trauma or elevated levels of suicide, like young Latinas; $25,000 expands our entire suicide survivor support program and promotes it citywide.

In-kind Donations

You, your family or business might be able to offer or have connections with someone or a business that could offer the type of services the Samaritans needs or is already utilizing (thereby saving funds that are already being spent). The type of services that would benefit Samaritans are: advertising and marketing; printing and production; accounting services from a CPA; event sites for education activities; restaurant and bar sites for fundraising events; etc.

Event Sponsorship

Consider hosting a fundraising event or benefit on Samaritans behalf or name Samaritans as the designated charity of an event that you are already planning. Events can be social, educational, with a business focus or corporate marketing function. If you are charging an entrance fee, per seat or table charge, designate a percentage to charity. Make Samaritans the recipient of your auction, raffle or other revenue activity.

Examples: Designate Samaritans the recipient of the entry fee at a fashion show or music concert. Have a cast member make a statement on the need for suicide prevention at the intermission of a theatre performance and "pass the hat." Have the DJ or host at a nightclub suggest patrons make a donation. Work with Samaritans to plan an event large or small a cocktail party, sit-down dinner or concert that has a tie-in with our cause. [Note: many great artists suffered from depression, from Charles Dickens and T.S Eliot to Jackson Pollack, Georgia O Keefe, Cole Porter and Charlie Parker.]

(C) 2011 The Samaritans of New York &nbsp P.O.
